SDC - RTF's Next DDR Competition - Sunday 5 December
« on: November 18, 2010, 01:58:25 AM »
Team Ranking Task-Force is very pleased to announce our next DanceDanceRevolution Competition, currently being organised in conjunction with Timezone Family Entertainment Centres.

The event will be held in the Timezone Albert Street location on Sunday 5 December from Midday.

A decision has been made to keep a shorter format, and current plans include 2 main competition divisions: Difficult and Expert.

This will be a ranking-based elimination competition, with total scores ranked in each round and the lowest scoring competitors eliminated. A shortlist of songs will be announced soon, and competition rounds will be chosen at random from that shortlist on the day.

Timezone are providing prizes of bonus store-credit for competition winners, and all paid competitors will receive a gift of 2 free games (some conditions of use will apply). Full prize details will be announced closer to the event.

There will also be a number of quick, fun events spread throughout the event, so players of all skill levels are invited to come along and take part. And for the Freestyle and Performance players, we would love to showcase some of your routines to cap off the end of the day!

This is by all means an open event for the community, and we hope everyone will come along and participate.

If you have any questions, please add your comments to this thread in the forum, and we will be happy to provide any information as it is finalised.

Scoring
  • RTF competitions are scored using variations of the RCA system, with points values assigned to each 'step rating' (Marvellous = 0, Perfect = 1, etc).
  • Players will be ranked from lowest score to highest in each round.

We'll need to start as close to midday as possible, so if you can, be there a little bit before. That said, we still have to register everyone, and we'll accept entrants up until the end of the qualifying round of your division, so it's ok if you'll be a little bit late.

Cost is something we are still finalising with Timezone, but we should have that information for you next week.

Although it isn't relevant to the comp, I would like to advise you to double and triple check the pads beforehand. Last time they weren't that great. Not that the event wasn't really well run. I can tell you right now that the 2P side left arrow's inside sensor is, and has been unplugged for months. Rotate it to the outside, if it sticks.

I really want this to go well, if you want assistance pad checking, I am willing to help out. I won't modify anything, but just pick the best sensors, etc - something I pride myself on being good at doing. I can also bring some of my spare sensors, to replace the bad ones, since timezone don't seem to have many spares floating around. (I asked if they had any, and the technician said they didn't).

Don't take this as offense, I just wanna help make the machine good and the comp run well :] and this is something I'm pretty good at. =D

What format will this be? Bottom half each round is out? And what about songs, preselected like last time?

B1uEM4oM4o> Raph has been roped into helping us out with the competition from the TZ end, and while I can't speak for him or his availability, I would hope we can give the machine a decent check-up in the days before the competition. He's been checking in on the forum as we finalise the comp details, but I'll make sure he knows you're willing to help out.

Song list and elimination details were mentioned in the OP ;)

Song shortlist will be announced Sunday (and posted at TZ Albert St, other locations as soon as we can get to them), allowing 2 weeks for practice. Exact elimination details will be announced as soon as we've settled on a format we're happy with (likely the same time as the shortlist at this stage), but 50% would be a good guide.

PhibreOptix> Since the 2 free games will be registered onto your TZ card, I'm assuming you'll be paying to the counter. We will need to see how best to work it with Raph and the TZ staff.

The song list was up in Albert Street on Monday night, and should have been distributed to others stores on Tuesday. Please let us know if you see the details in one of the other suburban arcades!

If you're on Facebook, please do add yourself to the event. It'll help us get a rough idea of how many people to expect (which will help us work out prizes, etc), and help spread the word as well.

B1uEM4oM4o> We checked out the pads on Monday night while Raph and I were in at TZ. Some of the sensors were recently replaced, but we did find 1 sensor on 2P that stuck, and one of the pads on 1P as a whole took a little too much pressure to activate, so Raph's getting them looked at soon. Everything else seemed to be performing well, and they have a stash of replacement sensors ready to go if needed.

Just fyi, I played today, 2P right arrow inside sensor does not function. Obviously unplugged (has been for over three months).

Rotate it to the outside, leave it unplugged. Put the funtional outside sensor on the inside. Please! I played today and got 0 greats and about 20 misses in a bunch of songs, would be very frustrating for anyone in a tournament situation. Just so you know, it's pretty easy, I could come help you guys (since I'm pretty quick at finding the goods ones and knowing where to put them) if you tell me when you are doing the pads (probs the night before the event??)

I'm still not sure if I'll be fit to compete. I still haven't recovered muscle mass from the month or so I was sick last month, and now I seem to have a damaged right calf, and a very sore toe on the right foot (feels broken but who knows?). The calf in particular stops me doing anything. Think I damaged it in a driving lesson of all things...too much tension on that leg. The toe could be the same, who knows? My calf feels odd right now though...any tension makes it feel like I've pulled the muscle. Hard to walk. DDR uses calves more than other muscles, so...that's bad.

We'll see anyway. I don't think I've piked before and I've been sick/injured before. If it's not too painful (right now, it is), I'm still in, even if I'm in bad shape.

All complaints about the pads have been duly noted, and I promise you there will be further maintenance this week.

I can't promise you will be allowed to participate, you know how TZ management feel about non-employees poking around inside their machines. I'm there is an on-looker only, and to make sure we will be satisfied with the quality for competition purposes. We will do everything in our power to make sure the pads are in top shape on competition day.

Nah, it's store credit, EBE said "bonus credit" though which could be a bit confusing to people who don't frequent TZ.  The poster has more info.

Also, you do get 2 free games to use on any music game - he forgot to mention that. (It's on the poster going up today or tomorrow.)  If you use that on Drummania or Technika, of course, you come out quite close to even.  A small incentive for people to try other music games!
