[Updated 05/08 - Prizes, Rules, Scoring]

FINAL STAGE is a head-to-head, Double Elimination Tournament. Players will compete in 1-on-1 match-ups for high score over 2-3 songs. A competitor must lose 2 separate match-ups to be eliminated from the tournament

  • The tournament will include full tournament brackets in 2 Divisions: Difficult and Expert.
  • Players will choose their Division at registration
  • Tournament brackets will be based on the total number of entrants. For this reason: No late entries can be permitted.
  • Should the number of entrants lead to an uneven bracket, first round byes will be allotted based on the final standings from the previous competition (Autumn Dance Challenge) as needed, starting from 1st place. These players will bypass the first round of competition.

Competition Structure

There will be 3 rough 'stages' to each tournament Division. These stages will determine the difficulty of songs selected, and also the number of songs used in each round.

  • For the Early and Mid Stages of the tournament, rounds will be comprised of 2 songs selected at random.
  • For the Finals Stage of the tournament, rounds will be comprised of 3 songs: 1 song selected at random, and 1 song each selected by the players.

All songs will be selected from the DDRX track list - original stepcharts only.

Randomly Selected Songs

Expert
  • Early Stage - Difficulty Rating: 10-12
  • Mid Stage - Difficulty Rating: 12-14
  • Finals Stage - Difficulty Rating: 13+

Difficult
  • Early Stage - Difficulty Rating: 7-9
  • Mid Stage - Difficulty Rating: 9-11
  • Finals Stage - Difficulty Rating: 10+

Difficulty Rating restrictions only apply to randomly selected songs.

Player Selected Songs

In the Finals Stage, players may select any song of any Difficulty Rating at their chosen Difficulty Level (Expert or Difficult). Players cannot select the same song more than once.

Schedule of events

The following timetable is our planned Schedule of Events for the day. Please be aware this approximate timetable is subject to change, and specific events may take longer than expected on the day. We ask that all competitors be present and registered prior to the midday start time.

11:00am    Competitor Registration
Midday    CLOSE OF REGISTRATION
Warm Up Round - Marvelous Attack (Bonus Event)
12:30pm    FINAL STAGE Tournament
    Difficult and Expert Divisions
5:00pm    Bonus Events

Late entry cannot be permitted. This tournament will involve fixed brackets based on the total number of entrants. If you are running late, please call Timezone Albert St directly on 07 3221 3733.

Marvelous Attack is offered as a warm-up event, free for all players, allowing all competitors to practice under competition conditions:
  • Marvelous Attack - 1 song, Basic difficulty, highest number of Marvelous steps wins.
A simple test of accuracy, the most basic form of our competition.

Due to the change in format, we cannot be sure how long the full tournament brackets will take. For this reason, any further Bonus Events will be held until the end of the tournament.

Entry Fee

  • Entry Fee for either tournament division is $5.
  • Any additional events are offered free, and will be open to all players.
  • All paid competitors will receive 2 Free Games on their Powerclub card. If you do not have an existing Powerclub card, you can sign up for one at registration, or a temporary card will be provided.
  • Free Games can be used on any music simulation or rhythm action title at Timezone's Albert St, Chermside, Browns Plains or Redbank locations. If you are concerned a game will not be included, please ask staff on the day of the competition. Free Games will become valid as of 08/08/2011, and will remain valid for 30 days.

Prizes

Major prizes for both divisions will be awarded as Bonus Credit to your Timezone Powercard:
Exp 1st Prize $40    Dif 1st Prize $20
Exp 2nd Prize $30    Dif 2nd Prize $15
Exp 3rd Prize $20    Dif 3rd Prize $10
Exp 4th Prize $20    Dif 4th Prize $10

There will be other minor prizes awarded to players on the day.

Event Rules

  • The judge’s decision is final in all matters.
  • This is a social event: Poor sportsmanship will not be tolerated, and is grounds for disqualification.
  • To avoid damage to the machine or players: Appropriate footwear and clothing must be worn at all times.
  • No modifiers that change the step chart are permitted (eg cut, shuffle/mirror/left/right). Other modifiers will be allowed (eg scroll speed, reverse, arrow colours)
  • This is a publicly-playable machine. While every effort will be made to ensure the machine is in top shape for the competition, problems can arise on the day. Technicians will be on-hand to assist should any problems arise. Should a problem arise that cannot be fully resolved, we will attempt to rotate players to keep it as fair as possible. Scores will not be adjusted, and players must follow the judge’s instructions.
  • Timezone will be our hosts for this event, and have the right to refuse entry for any reason.

however tbh it just isn't good enough. you cant argue with this, players like me, dan, kevin etc. who are all a lot better than you all agree with this. we all get smeg and it's really annoying. Dan gets pad greats like crazy. I dont even bother maing there, its a waste

I believe they were distributed last week, so hopefully the answer is yes. If they're not up at your local Timezone, please let us know!

Nope, I believe he said a while back he was back in Brisbane, although a bit earlier than expected. Or that might have been from the IRC channel?

I've moved some posts over from the announcement thread and locked that off, just so we're not splitting discussion between 2 threads.

Also heard tonight that there been some rumours going around that this is our last competition! :D
Things are going great for us. Our numbers continue to grow, and the players tell us they enjoy the events we put on. We plan to be doing this for a long time to come!

To be fair, Chino did point out this could happen, given the name. I can see why some people might think that.

So, for the record, this absolutely is not the case. DDR competitions will continue!

If anything, this is like one of those pro wrestling Pay-Per-Views, where they promise that a long-standing rivalry will finally be resolved once-and-for-all! But it never is, and those 2 people are back at it the following month ;D

I certainly hope noone is spreading the rumour on purpose though.
