Looks like we've got one or two new names on the forum already.

So, n00bs, post and let us know a little about yourselves :D

Uh.  I don't know if everyone who comes here will know everyone in RTF, so I'll join in.

Hi, my name is Gurt, and I'm an alcoholic.  Well, maybe not.  I've been playing DDR for...uh...seven years, I think.  Bugger, it's hard to remember.  If you Google for "GurtyGurt" you'll see evidence of how long I've been around in the DDR scene.  Anyway, I pretty much retired in that sense and keep a lower profile these days, but I do remain an integral part of the local scene - or at least, I hope I do.  Heh.

I try to contribute what I can to the scene.  My latest project is training Teloka up to speed.  I've always intended in taking on a mentor role.  We'll see how it works!  (she lives at Noosa so it's difficult!)

(EDIT: I'll drag Mistress Teloka here sometime if she's interested in forummage.  I haven't explained what an RTF is yet to her!  She probably thinks it stands for RealTime Fart or RagTime Feelin' or something!)

I'm Barry.  The two most distinctive things people will note about me is that I almost exclusively play in double mode, and I'm old for a DDR player.

I don't go out of my way to talk to strangers, but I'm friendly enough and I don't bite.  These days I play ITG waaay more than DDR.  If an arcade fixes their pads in my area then that could change.  I can't think of anything else right now... but I guess that's what the "modify" button is good for.

Howdy y'alls! I'd be Teloka, the one Gurt said he'd drag here. In other words, the n00b! Woo! :D

Not much to know about me other than that I'm a complete klutz come idiot come childish crazy-person, and uhhm. I believe that sums me up! Must admit I've yet to injure myself on DDR though, but I don't reckon it'll take too long! :D

And uhm.. yes! Little bit shy, but nice to meet everyone!

You also look like Meg if she were a guy.
Well, more of a guy...

ALSO welcome to you Teloka! No injuries yet? I'm sure Gurt could show you how to colapse a lung or two.

I'm ZDM or Kylie, I'm usually pretty nice to people unless they're canaryy or they bar hug... argh!

I'm around both Brisbane and Morayfield (where I live)... you may have seen me around. Long brown hair, kinda sociable, any DDR score with 'ZDM'... although any score in Brisbane is easily beaten if my friends wanted to try. I'm certainly not the best of the Brisbane bunch. Maybe if you just looked at girls who weren't asian I may make the top 5? Hmm... I specialise in accuracy and reading, as opposed to endurance, anyway.

There don't seem to be many good players in Morayfield though. It only took me one shot to beat JIMs multiple scores to come first on Nonstop... (who the hell is JIM, anyway?)

Cool! Our very first random :D

Welcome Amber!

Yeah, the general atmosphere up at Tops any time I've been there is way too claustrophobic for me. And the emos camping in front of the elevators annoys the crap out of me  >:(

I would ask that anyone who creates an account make at least one post, especially in this thread.

We've got a few accounts that signed up and have done nothing, and they're not e-mail addresses I recognise. Considering we've already had spambots hitting the forums, I'd rather avoid having datamining accounts left unchecked.

hey, i havent posted yet lol. for those who dont know me i'm michael. i know a fair few of you guys (pascal, nabechan etc most tops players), however am new to these forums. been playing a yr or 2, although i havent had a good day of ddr in a couple of months because the stupid tops machine is crappy and out of order most of the time and the chermside one is just dirt. replay sucks. i agree with all u guys about bar rapers and emos crouding the machine/destroying it with their massive boots.

Yo duckletts!

Name's Shanny (AKA Boo(p) / Goldiefish / Spaz) and a few of you met me at ITG today. Have been playing for... hmm... maybe six months? Mainly play Pop'N'Stage 'cause it's on may way from school and cheap and Amby would most likely come after me with a chainsaw if I ditched her there (well we all know she would!). On P'N'S I'm playing Another/Hard, and with ITG/DDR I can handel about a 7/8 - given that I'm not already 3/4 dead. I live out at Burpengary so you'll most likely find me at Toombull (dangerous due to tendancie towards extreme sugar highs), Morayfield on the odd occasion or maybe Tops.

Okiedokies, I think that's about it - feel free to add me on msn (don't know why you'd want to though =P), and rock on!

Stags here, Joel said I should join. I’m not much of a DDR player but I do find it fun. I DDR when friends ask me to be the second player. I play on the easiest setting and that is enough for me. DDR to me is just a fun social thing. I especially enjoy watching friends put on an impressive show. I know various people here ("waves at them") so it is cool to have somewhere else online I can say hi to them.

Hehe you probably don't know me because I read your intro (which was like... very many months old??) and nobody fitting that description crossed my mind v___v

but anyway most of the people on these forums know me from tops and replay.. i'm one of the "newer" DDR players (i've only been playing for about a year) and I don't know very much about the old DDR scene and lol im rambling

old ddr scene is old.

What happened to those old days of DDR (When RTF was more active and Legion of Sound was around?) I only hear ... tales... from people like Pascal and Luke who make it seem like some long-lost golden age of dancing simulation.

Then again, there are alot more Heavy players around these days at Tops... people are wanting to increase their skill level at the game... will there be another era where people will come up the elevators and see 2 people playing Legend of Max in sync? I hope there is... but it'll never be as big here as in the US.... <___>;
Title: Re: New Player Introductions!
Post by: ZDMKylie on November 01, 2007, 12:28:32 AM
Oooohh... I have an intro??

Oh that's right... hm... Unfortunately I don't go out and play DDR much anymore. I used to but then started working full time and studying full time... that sorta cut my time back. Now I just study full time but am not in the city as much and DDR in Morayfield is on the expensive side for what it is. So you may not have seen me around recently...

And yes, it seems like the scene is dieing. There are newer players, of course, I think there almost always will be, but we're not as *in touch* with them. Very few of us are regular DDRers now, at least when compared to how much we used to play. It's a shame... it's a good habit.

Then again, there are alot more Heavy players around these days at Tops... people are wanting to increase their skill level at the game... will there be another era where people will come up the elevators and see 2 people playing Legend of Max in sync? I hope there is... but it'll never be as big here as in the US.... <___>;

People had a lot more time back then. Most of us were in school or uni, so we wasted most of the day in the city anyway.

Kinda became a generational thing. So many of us had to take a step back from DDR at the same time we lost touch with all the new people coming in. We try to counter that by running comps when Eddie's in the country, and through this forum of course.

Should get back into those arcade trips if people aren't taking off in the holidays.

And no, we'll never be as big as the US, but if you ask me that's a bonus. Some dudes in the US scene have been complete douchbags.

Hullo hullo  :)

I'll buy whoever remembers me a game at replay if i see them around haha.  I started playing DDR in 1998, was in the top 5 in brisbane during DDR 4th mix era, during RTF's heyday, and then moved onto full-time Drummania and high level Tekken Tag/4/5/5:DR.  Apparently ebe says I'm in RTF, but I'd prefer to have that happen more officially before I use the title.  I was asked to join LoS and i was in it for a while in 2002, and i've helped organise RTF tournaments and shtuff.

Um, now I'm in top 5 DM players in brisbane, and 6th in Aus for Tekken 5:DR.

I also hope a new era of solid DDR happens again!  It'll be great to see some tournaments like we had back in the day, with a huge crowd, and a real air of...  officiality about the whole business.  It really was a golden age of funkiness haha

Anyway, hi to all the people I haven't met, I'm often seen skulking about replay with a scowl and a mohawk, but the scowl's usually from the heat or from some lvl 90+ song on DM, and the mohawk doesn't mean i file my teeth to sharp points and eat children for fun.  Come say hi :)

hey i'm dave, AKA miracle, and i'm a DDR-holic. it's been my drug going on 4 years now. you'll probably only see my scores on ddr at morayfield, my local, and only once because i didn't play nonstop after that. other than that, i go into the city on occasion to see if anyone is at replay/tops, then to get some noodle box. <3 noodle box.

i think that's it? yeah thats it. i hear some red bull calling my name.

Wow. It would appear I never previously toasted in this bread.

Most people call me Raph, except for... EBE. That's about it.
Once had a reputation for being possibly Brisbane's greatest DDRer, then I moved up and became one of the goodest instead. Stopped playing DDR around SN's release because I'm a double player, and the release of SN saw the price of a game of double go from one dollar/4 stages to 4 dollars/3 stages. No. Just, no.

Been playing again recently now that Replay's SN is down to $1/3 stages, but the machine's a little quiet and I've always played by ear rather than by sight, so I'm unlikely to be getting back into full swing unless they ditch SN for something good, like DDR 4th Mix Plus (or 5th mix, happy ms? ;) ). I'll probably be around Replay more often than I have in the last year or so, though, thanks to SN's new pricepoint. If I'm there I'm most likely wearing a set of headphones and a backpack, playing a DS, and talking to other players.

its a hole with a giant building in the middle of it now...what is that new F block for anyway

they killed F Block to put the new P block, because they're pulling down P block to put the new K block, and theyre turning that Aboriginal culture centre into the new Tennis courts. The old tennis courts are becoming a new car park, and the old K block is getting pulled down because it is sliding down Glenelg Street. They say that within 50 years it will collide with L-block, causing the end of the world. However, they also turned B block into the new library, and G block became another generic set of classrooms. Also, they pulled down the old tuckshop, and put the new tuckshop underneath E block. They painted M block and J block to match the colour of the School logo, and it looks gay. H block now has several tens of thousands of dollars of top of the line computer equipment, all waiting to be stolen. There will also be a new overhead bridge to be built, as well as addition of windows to A block and C block because of the new Hale Street bridge being built over the river and turning Merivale Street into a practical motorway for heavy vehicles. There are now little preschool-sized fences and gates around.... well.. everything... at the bottoms of stairs, at doorways, and at other strange places. Last year, the Dux of the school studied subjects like art and HPE, because there were no students (who were studying Physics, Maths C and Chemistry) who could do them well enough to get enough points.

Also, the school captains are complete RANDOMS who nobody knows and nobody cares about. Mr Sutton is leaving at the end of the year. Good riddance to all these things.

Since left side = right side,

BSHS is a hole QED

I'm not hating anything.  I'm pretty much the only person who plays DDR and ITG, the rest are either very heavily focused on one or the other, and since these machines are in different locations, it creates two different "communities".  The ITG half of this is what is generally considered to be the Adelaide "community".

Just to clarify, two different communities based on different games, different locations, or both because there's only the one game in each location?

There are other communities in Brisbane I think...I guess technically you could say Replay and Funhouse are different communities, if not, is Chermside still anything resembling a community?

Extreme is in an arcade about 30-45 minutes south of the city.  I am (or, I was) pretty much the only one who plays is it.  There are a couple of other "regulars", but I don't think they go much.  Then you have ITG which is about 30 minutes north-east(ish) of the city, and this is where most of the players go.  I still head out there every now and then, and I talk to a lot of the people there.  Pretty much all of the people who play there are on our forums.  Then we have SN, which is about 30-45 minutes north of the city (I think).  Pretty much none of the people who play ITG go there, but it has it's own little community that is practically isolated from the one that I know.  I think it's more that nobody in either group has the desire to travel to the other arcade because they don't like the other game (myself excluded).

Actually this is making sense more now, since IIRC you guys don't have any real arcades left in the city any more?

I remember back when we first met the Adelaide community online (which was about 2 weeks before I went to Adelaide for a holiday in 2001) there were council laws preventing new arcades in the city, and the one that was already there was a dark and dingy hole. Although it did have multiple DDR cabs.

We are lucky enough here in that we have good central arcades that anyone in Brisbane who's serious about playing can get to fairly easily. I can see that a split would form if your only options were well outside the CBD and in completely different directions.

Well played, Evan... well played...

 ;)

Apparently there used to be an arcade in the CBD (I think) called Tilt, but that closed down before I started playing (definitely before I joined the community).  A couple of people said there was a machine in some pub in the city, but they got rid of that too.  There are only 5 arcades (that I'm aware of) in this city - the 3 TunzaFun stores at the locations I mentioned, and another two that are a little more central but still outside the CBD, but both of those are Intencity, and the machines are poorly maintained (if at all).  The last time I played at one of them, I failed to get Extra Stage.  Pretty much nobody goes there.

When I went to Sydney and saw 3 arcades within a 5 minute walk of each other, it freaked me out a little bit.   :D

there use 2 be 6 or 7 in Brisbane within couple of mins of each other back in 2000/2002

Playtime (Tops) - Myer Centre
Playtime (Dungeon) - Next to Macca's underneath albert st near adel st
Playtime (Wintergarden) - Queen St Mall
Timezone - Queen St Mall
Playtime (Albert St) - where ANZ bank use 2 be
Replay (Albert St) took over from Playtime

thats all i can think of atm
there is only 2 in the city now....Replay and Funhouse

TILT! That was it! God that place was dodgy. Decent DDR cabs tho, back just after 4th Mix (or 4th Plus) made it to Aus.

Still kinda bummed I didn't get to meet anyone while I was down there, but with only 2 weeks to prepare and a holiday already planned it just didn't work out.

To be more accurate, it was exactly where the optometrist and Bubbles are now.  It occupied both stores.  I'm certain of this because there's a bench out the front of them, and only one, and that bench used to be out the front of Playtime.

Never had any Bemani games, though!  But they had other awesome like Street Fighter Alpha.

The Intencity I used to play at now has DDR SN in one of those skating game cabinets (where you stand on the skateboard to control the character).
Title: Re: New Player Introductions!

Tops arcade used to be massive. But this is way back in the early-mid 90s, when I was only allowed in the city occasionally as a child :/

There used to be many many Playtimes throughout the city, much like in other cities, but they all had the same games and all died out when consoles caught up to arcade quality and people didn't need arcades to play games any more.

Replay's held up the tradition of arcades that have been in that location previously. Funhouse now in Tops is the best that's been up there in a long time.

I can remember the old huge arcade in the Myer center... or maybe a better term would be an entertainment level. I actually went to kindy in Brisbane City Hall, and mum used the place as a form of bribery. The things I can remember most clearly were an awesome fairy shop (hey, I was little!), a huge sort of play center set up like it was in a giant tree or something, and the old dragoncoaster.... I was terrified of that thing.

Hey everyone im Joe, I used to play DDR back in 2003/2004 until i moved to the uk where they have no arcades anywhere!!! so i stopped for 4 years!!! im back now and trying to get back into things. I dont know if the old lot used to be around, i went to an RTF comp back in the day when legionofsound was around!

I play mainly to build up stamina so i can finally beat paranoia survivors and maxes on heavy but i get too tired after halfway!

Ok so i was yahooing (i have issues with google) replay brisbane to find out what time they close tonight (since i finish work at 11, some nights i can play DDR on the way home and some i cant... just never remember which) and VOILA i found this site.

So anyways,  i was reading though a thread and it didnt take me long to forget WHY id ended up here in the first place, partly because i was lauging at everyone's signatures, partly because i was reminiscing from my yahoo groups days, but mostly because i realised that i had stumbled upon the place where all those people who i wait in line behind to have a game of DDR!

So in short, since you all make me feel horrible about my abilities by waiting paitently while i stumble to finish a song with 6feet/stars, then when i stumble off the platform, turn it to the highest possible difficulty and make it look like it requires no effort - you can now listen to my ranting for a while, until my boss realises ive found more uses for the internet at work.

Oh yeah, my name's Amy by the way.
You can find me eitehr at replay in the city, or funhouse at Indro.

Hi Amy! Welcome to the forums.

Hope you found your answer about Replay (it's midnight most nights, just in case).

You may also want to check out the Brisbemani forums (http://brisbemani.freeforums.org/), since there's a lot of active players posting there too. Possibly a few more faces there you'd recognise :D

Feel free to hang around and chat, we're always happy to meet new people.

Thanks for the welcome! From what ive seen so far tonight you seem to be the Obi Wan of the forum here?
Anyway im mostly too scared to talk to other DDR'ers, since theyre usually way too good and id only get in the way. Ive only just started DDRing this year, and i mostly play alone or with the friends i force along with me. So i technically dont recognise specific people... but thanks for the heads up though!

Do you guys organise meet-ups very often, or is it just groups of 'offline friends'?

Oh btw, i bought a DDR mat for my 360 but it worked for one night only. Does anyone know of any problems theyve had, or is everyone here only arcade dwellers?

Ooh, a new victim!

Welcome to the forums!  I'm a point form person so I'm going to answer things in point form:

Replay/soon-to-be Timezone closes at midnight Monday-Thursday, 3am Friday-Saturday, not sure Sunday - I've heard both times.  They open 8am, FWIW - except they open late every second Thursday or Friday for some reason.

I'm pretty sure none of us aim to make you feel horrible.  In fact, I think most of us would aim to try to make you feel welcome!  We're all approachable and not elitist or anything - actually for a lot of us I'd say the social aspects of DDR are what keeps us going.  We've all started somewhere, and most of us did struggle around the 6-foot mark for a while.  Feel free to ask for tips, or feel free not to - playing is probably the most fun, if not the most brutal, way to learn :D  We mostly play for fun, just some of us find 10-foots more fun than 6-foots.  Personally, I do both, and easier stuff, and stupid stuff.  Lots of stupid stuff.  There's videos on the Youtube thread, I'm sure.

Actually you'd be surprised how many people are too scared to talk to other DDRers.  Very few of us became instantly social.

We don't organise meet-ups particularly often, but Friday night is "traditional" night, when people are most likely to be in Replay.  I'm usually there after work from 5pm until 7pm at least, longer if it's worth staying (ie I'm not the only one there at that point - that's when I go home if I'm by myself).  Some people will drift up to FunHouse for a bit, others like me will not (except to look for people).  I'm usually drifting between DDR and beatmania IIDX.  If you see someone playing double mode on IIDX, than it's going to either be me or Luke.  Probably me.  It's probable there'll be a meet-up of some sort in the next month or two.  Either way you're more than welcome to hang out with us, we're not psycho or anything.  Maybe loony, but not psycho.

Home DDR mats are somewhat notorious.  I don't know about the 360 one specifically but they're not THAT notorious, and they're more known for sliding, ripping, and not being good enough for really hard songs.  Tony might know though.  If you're seriously after a home version I'd look into PS2 mats instead - ebe was asking about them a while ago, there's a thread on them and nobody would mind if you bump it up or have questions or whatever.  With a PS2 mat it gives you the option of finding a Playstation to USB adaptor (about $10 on eBay, I bought a spare one last week) and hooking it up to StepMania.  Or you could find a USB mat.  Either way, it depends how serious you are about it.

Anyway, stick around, ask more questions, whatever!  We always need more people.

And yes, Shannon is friendly and doesn't bite.  Try not to scare her!

I remember the first time I passed a 1-foot song I got a D.  I then failed a 2-foot song.  Several times.
I remember the first time I passed Paranoia/Light I ran away from Replay like a coward.
I remember the first time I passed Paranoia Rebirth/Heavy I ran into NBA Hangtime.  It hurt.  The corner of the screen clocked me square on the bonce.  This was because the guy I was playing with made me do two 9-foots in a row and I was close to passing out.  Fun times!
I remember the first time I kneedropped for lulz I missed and hit the metal.  I'm pretty sure it was a jumping kneedrop.  Moral:  Know where your knees are going!
I fell asleep at a DDR competition once.  And NOBODY NOTICED!

In conclusion, Pascal, you are a lying liar.

hahaha you guys are awesome!
and i love point form myself (i once tried to hand an essay in in point form - my english teacher just handed it straight back with an evil evil glare) so i think we're gonna get along just fine.

Everyone is always nice and friendly looking, but that doesnt stop me from feeling like a kiddy trying to sit at the grown ups table  ;)

p.s. i can complete ONE song on light on the beat-thingamajig! (thats the dj game right?)
p.p.s. Halo online rocks my world (unfortunately as i dont have the internet at the moment, my world is in ruins - which now i think of it, is probably why i started on DDR)
p.p.p.s. i have no idea what a kneedrop is (except for the obvious mental picture im getting from the seemingly self explanatory name
p.p.p.p.s. i dont think that last sentence made sense.

Anyways, the following is the story of my short lived relations with the DDR game for 360...

DAY1 4.30pm: Amy screaming and jumping with joy as she carries her DDR game home
DAY1 5.30pm: Love in its purest form emanates from Amy as she turns on her 360 and thanks her housemate (who conveniently works at gametraders indooroopilly) for convincing her it would be a good idea to buy it over the original crash bandicoot games
DAY1 7.00pm: Amy still swearing at the DDR game and the mate because she cant seem to keep her feet in the right spots (it seems to be alot harder when the whole mat is plastic - my housemate told me my feet were moving at the right time and in the right direction, they were just placed wrong on the mat)
DAY1 11.00pm: Amy finally gets the hang of it and the squealing starts again (although the swearing starts too, since these are all new songs)
DAY2: Amy tries to play DDR - but it DOESNT WORK. Fail
DAY3: Amy tries to play DDR - but it DOESNT WORK. Fail
DAY4: Amy tries to play DDR - but it DOESNT WORK. Fail - Hate is emanating from her every time something reminds her of this.
DAY5: Amy gets angry at her housemate for selling her faulty products
DAY6: Amy finally cracks and goes into Replay on her way to work - only to discover that because of that one night of playing, she can do SIX FEET!!! OMFG!!!! :o
DAY7: Amy returns DDR to gamertraders and gets store credit to use on Halo:Recon - or whichever impulse buy strikes next...

...Yes, Amy likes to talk about herself in the third person. She's cool like that.

Haw, I'm just glad none of us have freaked you out yet.

1. beatmania, yes, dj thingy.  It's got a really evil learning curve and it doesn't appeal to everybody but I wouldn't let it intimidate you too much, it's a nice, cheap, fun game to play with much the same songs as DDR.
2. Not much of a Halo person, but there's other people here who are.  I still might buy Halo 3, who knows?  Only just got a 360 so there's plenty to play yet.
3. A kneedrop is pretty much what it sounds like.  And most people aren't crazy enough to do one!  It generally involves pressing the arrow with your knee, as opposed to a handplant/palmstomp or headbutt (which I think I'm the only person insane enough to do).
4. None of us make sense.  It's great!

DDR is on many platforms.  On PS2, Xbox, Xbox360, Wii, , Gamecube, PC, even Gameboy Color if you're feeling twisted.  Unfortunately the best versions are the Japanese versions and what we get are basically their dregs.  If you get completely addicted and you like spending money on things, I'd highly, HIGHLY recommend getting an imported PS2 (or a modded one) and the Japanese games - particular DDR Extreme, Supernova and Supernova 2.  They have the best song selections and they are basically arcade perfect.  The other games are made for different audiences - the Xbox/Xbox360 ones are aimed at the western market so the songs are more mainstream and a little easier (and less of them), the Wii and Gamecube versions are aimed more at casual gamers, and the PC one is horrible and is a candidate for my "things worse than Hitler" list.  If importing isn't your thing or you want something now now NOW, there's about half a dozen PS2 versions in Australia but I don't know their details.  Gametraders frequently stock them but that's about it.  I know I've seen them at both Garden City and Hyperdome Gametraders...and Maroochydore, if you feel like going 100km to buy a game that might not be there.

Shannon talks about herself in third-person too, so you'll get along great with her, haha.

Oh! A Girl gamer!

Girl gamers don't exist, they're a myth!  They're all guys pretending to be girls because it's funny, or people who think playing The Sims makes them a gamer! :P

Heheh... Just wait 'till you've seen your first game of foolstyle, you'll be all-too-well acquainted with kneedrops by then, lol - also with various other crazy stunts. Like faceplants, 'cause that was always gonna be an awesome idea! =P

Also this is true, Shanny does speak in third-person occasionally. Hm. *ponders*

foolstyle? :o sounds ominous...

i have a noob question:
is there a point where you have to start holding the bar? Or is it possible to progress past the level ive now reached without it?

i was hoping to make it there after i finished tonight for a game but i dont think ill make it... :(
Title: Re: New Player Introductions!
Post by: Ghostling on January 13, 2009, 11:38:11 PM
Bar is not necessary. =)
Title: Re: New Player Introductions!
Post by: Gurt on January 13, 2009, 11:42:28 PM
Tricky question.

Short answer, no.  Long answer, if you get into Stepmania or In The Groove, or play the rediculously REDICULOUSLY hard DDR stuff, then if you want to get an AAA (that is, all perfects), yes.  If you got rediculously good you could pass everything without the bar, though.  A better answer is most of us here don't use it, quite a lot of people in FunHouse use it, but they play more 'endurance' stuff, and they'll wear cycling glove/s when they do it for extra grip.  If you use the bar, you expend less energy, and you can step more accurately, but that's it.

Examples of songs that would be psychotic without the bar would be Dead End Groove Radar Special, and most of the red songs on Challenge mode.  But if you mean stuff like Max 300/Heavy or Fascination Maxx/Heavy, no.

Confusing enough? :P  Personally I just won't do it, even if I fail.  It's ultimately a question of personal preference.  And it'd probably make double mode harder, to look at it another way...

Hello Amy my name is Chino and I pretty much represent the Funhouse side of the game.

I also introduced the idea of wearing the cycling gloves, but I can assure you it is not a bemani-related reason we are wearing them (we wear them for parkour, and don't take them off afterwards/beforehand)

anyway watch out for B1uEM4oM4o he represents serious business.

Welcome, Mr x777x!

As said in the posts from yesterday to sparrow, we try to make ourselves approachable so feel free to harass us or whatever, and we pride ourselves on trying to make the community better.  Um...I'd think of something better to say but I think I'm about to pass out!  Probably a good thing, refer to my earlier post :D

Oh, and just in case it needs saying with the sudden influx of new users - this isn't a team forum, it's a Brisbane forum.  All are welcome and all are equal.  It inherits a team name because this forum is basically a revival of an earlier forum from when the community pretty much consisted of the team and the team only - but we're talking about some years ago.  2000-2001-ish.  So don't think we're part of some cool gang you're not allowed to be in, because we're not!  Questions always welcome, or feel free to assault previous topics.

I'll probably get a pic somewhere eventually when I feel like sacrificing anonymity, since I'm kinda curious as to whether people have even noticed me around, lol.

Indeed, Shannon knew exactly who Matt was, and it would require all his ninjitsu to outwit, out play, and out survive the other competitors with her having this knowledge.

Elimination impending, Matt would be forced to muster up enough ninjitsu to hide 10 pandas, a truck, a crying lolrus, and a cat that's about to be bathed in order to overcome this obstacle....

In other words..

The old DDREX machine at Chermside used to do this I think, and the city one occasionally.  It was because the CD skips and the audio stops, so the arrows stop too.  When it starts again, it tries to catch up so it plays for the same length of time, going at something like 120% speed until it catches up.  Older versions simply would either keep going with no sound until the end of the song, autofail you, or jump to the point where it should be and assume you missed everything (I guess it thought all the arrows were at once thus you missed them).  No idea about SN1 or SN2, though.

It's best to make sure the machine you're playing on doesn't do this before you play challenge mode, when you're ready for challenge mode - you could be doing great then all of a sudden, BAMMO.  Machine stops, and you know when it starts again you're going to miss the first arrow, and likely a few more because the speed change messes the perfect timing up.  You'll soon get your 4 good/boo/misses and game over.  Not fun.  But funny!

Ohhhh, your Xbox DDR was suffering from lag!

LOL! No it's not...

You see, the Xbox DDR would have too much going on, too detailed videos etc, so it suffers from lag

To stop it, you have to turn off the videos in the background

I personally went to the additional effort of darkening the screen to about 30% brightness

Title: Re: New Player Introductions!

Install to HDD could help that, if you have enough space. It's fixing a lot of problems with glitchy games.

I'd be surprised if the DDR engine is able to overload an XBox. But poor coding could lead to that. The videos thing is probably worth a try at least.
Title: Re: New Player Introductions!
Post by: sparrow on January 16, 2009, 04:15:57 PM
yeah the thing was, it wasnt really glitchy or anything at all.
It would simply load the song up as if everything were fine, then as soon as it finished loading (not even giving me a chance to hear the song), it would immediately say FAILED.

I tried using the jukebox mode even, to listen to the klaxxons song it had on it, but it closed the song as soon as it loaded! Same as what happened before, only because it wasnt actually a game, i couldnt technically fail...

try cleaning the cache that might work........go to System Settings then Memory then press Y for Device Options then input this code (X,X,LB,RB,X,X) then click on yes :)

Could you please stop trying so hard straight-edge dude? We've already established this style of humour as our own through countless hours of training with monkey-ninja-pirates, you're dealing with a professional here.

Actually I think he's refering to me as an overly obsessive emo dude who can't eat animals, anything that comes from them, smoke, drink, or so anything that would de-purify my body, all because of the pokemonz thing, lol

Although, it's an unfair call, since sadly enough I can recognise to some extent all 493 pokemon as of the 4th generation, where LOLrien itself was devised from Walrien of the 3rd generation then mixed with Lolrus to make Lolrien.

Sadly enough I also understand IV's and EV's, and...eeehhhh

I could go into it but that would lead to wall of text, basically, given that I have significant grounding as a pokemon player (unlike some people who may make the call) I'm entitled to it in my humour repetoire

(...is it safe to come out? has the attention been diverted?)

p.s. i used to be the pokemon master... back when there was only 150
then i stopped paying attention cos i was like WHOA dude where on earth did all these extra pokemon come from? I searched through the woods for hours looking for a pikachu, and finding only weedles, caterpies, metapods, and the occasional kakuna, and NOW you're telling me there were countless other random pokemon to be found there ALL ALONG?!?!?!

...i hate you Mr Pokemon.

I remember Gurt being stalked.

It was years ago now... someone HAND DELIVERED a mysterious package to his door without notifying him they were there...

...the package didn't have any message on it, so they didn't know who it was from, or who it was meant for.

So Gurts parents opened it to see who it was for, and they realised it was for Gurt when they saw that the package contained a wallet with a very terrible poem inside.

The money in the wallet was GONE!

I bolded the bits that were true.  It was addressed to "Gurt" and wasn't sealed so I think my parents knew who it was for by reading it.  I note neither of them ever gave a smeg and nor did I but considering it was written by someone clearly suffering from paranoid schizophrenia, maybe I should have.  I still don't though.  Things like this, I don't let them get to me - I pretty much think "This is a great life story I can tell my grandchildren one day!" as soon as it happens.  Same with the time the dog barfed on me on my 21st...I laughed all the way home!

But funnily enough, once I lost my wallet in the city.  I didn't have much money in it, maybe $20.  About two weeks later I finally got around to replacing my licences.  The next day I get a package containing the wallet (money intact) with a very terrible letter about how God was protecting my wallet.  I mean, I respect people's religions and stuff (I'm not religious) but really, you're returning a wallet.  There doesn't need to be a whole paragraph about God that is longer than the paragraph about finding the wallet in KFC, a simple "God bless you" is probably more normal.  Anyway, I'm definitely not getting into a religious debate here, and I'm certainly not taking the piss from someone who did a good thing for me - clearly they're an admirable person and I respect that highly.  I can't help but thnink if every time I found someone's phone in the park how it'd go if I'd engage in an impromptu religious discussion, though.  Especially since the last person was this teenage girl with heaps of piercings.

Gurt, you've forgotten about the gift I got you, haven't you?

By the way, I do NOT clearly suffer from paranoid schizophrenia. That's my other half...    >_>

Hai Gais

My name's Anna aka Subliminal from Sydney (yeah im one of those people).
I decided to join these forums because everyone talks about you guys
and rather than continually asking who's what and what's going on, i'll find out for myself =D

ddr/itg wise, im a bar player because im a cheat. i use speed mods because im awesome.

i can be seen in my natural habitat attatched to the maccamans right arm.

The biggest jerks in DDR. Or did that just set a challenge?

Heya Anna, welcome to the forum. Feel free to have a look around at the older threads. We're not super-high-traffic so browse at your leisure.

I'm over speed mods these days. I use them in DM/GF and IIDX, so eh. I'm just used to reading 1x in DDR.
Title: Re: New Player Introductions!
Post by: subliminal on February 15, 2009, 11:50:48 AM
i guess when i played on 5th mix, it was all 1x no bar as well for m (moving on from home pad to arcade etc)

but meh...  i try and get competitive.. but usaully only if there's a female around. I've excepted that most guys are
better, simply because physically guys are more fitter. Skill/ability can only get me so far when it comes to harder songs ^_^.

and yeah, i will be lurking around threads considering i dont have uni for another week and im not working 24/7.

Welcome Subby! I assure you most stories about us are mostly untrue. The story about the dead soldier is, in fact, a fabrication of the new years eve tabletop dancing story, which actually happened. I and Chinozaki also have a nasty tendency of posting Williams-esque streams of consciousness directly from our brains through our fingers, with our only excuse being its remote relevance to the topic in question.

No matter.

Enjoy your stay here, and remember kids, don't feed the yao guai.

its more so your huge bar/no bar rants and how to play the game properly. i.e. ddr is serious business gais.

but broadening my knowledge of other ddr'rs from other states can only come as a positive =D~!!!

Nah, I doubt we'd still be playing if we took it that seriously.  Hell, I was saying to Chino last night I need to learn how to use the bar just because I don't know how to at all.  Only thing I'd rant about is non-working pads, and I don't think that's an issue in Bris these days...

I'm Growly.

I pop up every so often (yearly) at Brisbane Replay/Timezone... whatever the hell it is called these days. Most of the newcomers won't know me and I don't expect them to learn who I am either due to my infrequent appearances.

I'm a die hard console gamer, avid WoW fan and I consider myself an old-skool bemani player from the 2001-2005 era. I was eccentric and rarely seen without a smile on my face.

Oh and Gurt. My Growly@LoS hat is sitting on top of my monitor, FYI. :)

Egg tax.  Every time from January that I went to the supermarket I had to pay the egg tax, which consisted of buying eggs.  I go to the supermarket a lot, see.

And I don't think I've been complaining of too much chocolate, too little if anything - all my junk food money went to the egg tax!

lol you guys are funny.
i dont go to brisbane very much, im at the gold coast but when i do go up i always make my friends take me to the arcade thats next to the movies so i can play ddr there! i love it! i know theres another one close by but its easier to make my friends come if its on the way to wherever we are going at the time and the other one (intencity or timezone or something?)
i like egg tax. that will be my excuse to buy eggs from now on...

egg tax huh?
this is a dangerous proposal. hopefully ill have forgotten about it by the time next easter comes around...
its timezone and its so much radder than funhouse (albeit not as conveniently placed)

Yeah, the other one is a Timezone...the one up the top is Funhouse.

Most of us don't go to the Gold Coast much so you have no need to worry about stalking :P

And what she said about the arcades.  In our opinion.  Others have their own.  Either way you can't go wrong :D

I don't think anybody cares that much about teams these days, it's more about friendship, as corny as that sounds.

Man How long has it been since someone new rocked the socks of this forums. Really? Anyway I'm here to introduce myself to the DDR Fr... greats in this forum. My name is SteveO and was a participant in a DDR comp down in Albert in Brisbane. That was on the 5th of December.

Online, my name is nostalgical flares or  NosX

It's strange how I got to these forums. It all started a week before the comp; it was double dollars day too. I found this sign above my head while I was playing DDRSN2. It said... Ummm. Well it was a comp. I was willing to see how awesome the other participants are. I rocked up the week after at Albert St, Brissy. Found the place and fell in love with it. There was also an awesome machine with a usb attatchment (I wonder If I can use my mouse in this slot), known to most as DDRX.

Now that was only the travelling part, the part I want to talk about is not the comp, but how I got stuck here in this ^*&%& forum (no slang there)

The reason I want to register is because I want to get the photos from the comp at Albert St in Brisbane on the 5th of December. Which one of you guys got the photos of the comp? I wouldn't mind having a batch to look at.

I still haven't put them up, but I think the internet problems that were stopping me are fixed now.  I just got distracted by my new phone so hadn't thought about it today, actually.  I'll copy them onto my PC and see what I can do.

Not sure what the best place is these days...Flickr or Facebook.  Probably Flickr...they're biiiiiig, so I don't want to host them.  First time taking photos with a tripod for me, so it was a bit of alearning process.  (EDIT:  Actually no, bugger that.  Facebook.  Effort.)

Thanks for that mate. Just call me Steve if you seen me before. No point hiding my alias online if you seen me. I'll be looking at the DDR cabinet if you guys have any other events going on. The comp was my first and may I say it was a pretty great comp. Small, but it was great.

Oh great, another fraking newbie.

Also what mix did you start playing, do you hold the bar, have you ever been mellow, etc.

I'll just have to become National Champion then won't I? >:D

Do any of you play at Sunnybank Plaza? I don't get the chance to play in the city too often. That said, if I recognise any of you from the Comp photos I'll be sure to come say hi. =)

Yeah most of us are pretty chill around here

but watch out for the B1uEM4oM4o guy. He can be a bit of a troublemaker and he has a habit of trolling new members (just a heads up bro). Don't take him seriously he is very skinny

But feel free to post around, make new topics and ask heaps of questions if you wanna get better at ddr! This forum is good because everybody has a different outlook on the game and how they like to play it and stuff ^3^

How do you even type that character?
Title: Re: New Player Introductions!
Post by: Gurt on December 19, 2010, 04:50:20 AM
Alt-252 if your browser isn't smeg. (or copypaste)

Or you could use that Character Map thing that comes with Windows if you want to cheat.  But I grew up with DOS in the BBS days, before the Internet, when cool people spelt their nicks with ASCII.  Unƒortunately my old ASCIIƒied name isn't Unicode compatible, so I can't put it here.
