Title: RTF Tour of Brisbane and Mini-Comp
Post by: EBE@RTF on June 23, 2007, 08:53:57 PM
Over the next couple of months, Team Ranking Task-Force will be making regular Saturday trips out to arcades around Brisbane. This will be a fun social event for the team, as well as a great opportunity to meet some new people in different areas of the city.

We will also conduct a friendly mini-comp on each day with local players, to demonstrate what RTF does as a team, and to help promote friendly competitive play. The competition will be a simple head-to-head elimination format using machine scoring, and we may also try some other challenges to keep things interesting.

Our first two stops on the tour will be:

June 30th - Funhouse Indooroopilly
July 14th - Replay Chermside
July 21th - Funhouse Sunnybank
August 4th - ??? (Vote now)

More dates will be announced in the weeks to come. We want to encourage any locals or regulars at these arcades to come down on the day, so if you have friends who might be interested, please let them know.

We hope to get around to visiting all of the DDR machines in Brisbane, and if there's a machine in your local area you think we should visit, please leave a comment below and we'll add it to the schedule. Locations already planned:

-Funhouse Sunnybank
-Replay Browns Plains
-Morayfield
-Mt Gravatt

You guys have been a regular part of our trips before, so I see no reason why you can't come along.

I should say, though, that this is an effort to meet new players, so we'd prefer to keep the number of non-locals to a minimum. We plan to get to every arcade in town, hopefully on an ongoing basis, so if people want us to stop in their area, all they have to do is post on the boards and tell us where to go :D

If it's really not going to be a pain for anyone, I'd like to come, it'd be a great way to learn my way around I think... I'm only little, I promise not to take up too much space =)

General schedule of events:

12 midday - arrive at location
1pm - grab some lunch
2pm - Mini-comp

Will probably be ready to call it a day around 4pm, when we'll head back to the city. People are welcome to hang around or leave early if they wish.

This sort of schedule should be easy enough to maintain at any of the planned locations, and gives us time to play, relax and socialise.

The mini-comp is completely scaleable, so the size will be based on how many locals are interested in taking part. Ideally we would run an equal number of RTF members vs local players. As this will be a single-elimination head-to-head matchup comp, we should churn through it pretty quickly, and hopefully it won't be too boring.

What we'll be doing for song selection hasn't really been decided yet. This is just a fun event, and largely we're making it up as we go along ;D

Good luck having head to head on ddr chermside! that left side is worse than anything but NNF will be there on July 7th and we dont know where indooroopilly is so we wont be there.

If the pads are really that poor than I guess we can look at ways of switching up the format a little. It's just for fun anyway.

And I guess you're more a Chermside local, really, so Indro wouldn't really have been your space. But we'll see you guys on the 7th for sure.

Post by: moose! on June 28, 2007, 09:58:27 PM
yes, so bad i somehow AA'd leading cyber on 1p

but yea if it gets that bad, the format of the mini comp would be adjusted accordingly. thats the beauty of it.

Suggesting Morayfield. It has space around the machine for one thing. I understand that it's out of the way (zone 8), and am willing to find out about public transport. Don't think it's even technically in Brisbane... but hey, tis up to you guys.

With the Pokémon Connect event on next weekend, we'll be postponing the scheduled Chermside trip.

This will now be pushed back to Sat 14. We'll have a sign up to make sure people will actually attend this one.

Just a bit of a heads-up, Morayfield does have a tendency to be booked out for parties, and furthermore they don't put a sign on the door saying when they'll reopen to the general public. I shall, however, try to get a list of open Saturdays, being the nice, self-sacrifising person that I am. I have dealt with one too many 'shopping' trips being dissapointed.
Title: Re: RTF Tour of Brisbane and Mini-Comp
Post by: ZDMKylie on July 14, 2007, 06:47:09 PM
Couldn't hurt to add Morayfield in. It is my little northern slump, after all. And you guys don't travel all the way up here nearly often enough.

Heck, the last time we got a group up here was when I met Joel for the first time.

...and that was over two years ago!

Oh, and sorry I didn't make it to today's Chermside thing. Turns out I didn't wake up until 1pm.

Morayfield is north? Wow, I seem to learn something new every day =) I'm in for Sunnybank - meet up in the city like we did for Indro?

Also, I am rather ridiculously proud to announce my first ever AA =) So what if it was Love shine? =D *bounces around in state of complete hyper-ego*

And grats on the AA :D

Dunno how likely this week's trip is to go ahead.

I'm pretty sick right now, and won't be rushing out to strain my health if I'm not 100% by the weekend. I understand Pascal may also be pretty unwell.

Anyone else who was looking forward to a DDR outing this weekend?

I like ITG. However wasnt there talk on going to morayfield?
Another location could be browns plains but its space is very small....but para para, korean beatmania and ddr makes for lots of crowd involvement.
Title: Re: RTF Tour of Brisbane and Mini-Comp
Post by: ZDMKylie on August 02, 2007, 12:39:11 PM
There is talk about going to Morayfield but are you guys really up for that this weekend? I do propose for it next weekend, though, if you're running out of ideas.

Morayfield has Supersessions, running 1pm to3pm Saturday (I'm not too sure about the Saturday one, maybe Shanny can confirm?)

Sunday's supersession is definitely from 10pm-12am. Both cost $12, but I believe the Sunday supersession is the only one that actually locks you in. (With the Saturday supersession I believe you have to nag a staff member each time you want to play.

I do recommend the Supersessions, otherwise it's $2 pp, not joint premium. It's probably the most expensive DDR game in Australia. (Well it wasn't when Supanova was $2 pp not joint premium and only had three stages... this one actually has four.)

Mathematically, the Supersession is great if there's only a couple of people going. You pay $12 for unlimited play for 2 hours. However if there are a lot of people going and paying $12, they may not get their money's worth since it will take ages for each turn. (This one also applies if you can't focus for 2 hours or really just want to hang out)

Morayfield is so weird. Everyone (including me) calls it a dump, yet it has almost every store in existance. In some cases it even has more than the city does. What we DON'T have is high end fashion names or big restaurants, but WE have a Bi-Lo. WE have a Spotlight. WE even have a fricken Hogs Breath Cafe. Soon we'll have Valley Girl too. fraking Valley Girl.

Oh, and we'll have Krispy Kremes soon too.

Title: Re: RTF Tour of Brisbane and Mini-Comp
Post by: Ghostling on August 02, 2007, 07:39:29 PM
Ack, sorry can't confirm. Supersession sounds good to me though. Anyone walked from M. station to the center? Other alternative would be (I think - haven't really looked into it before) training to b.gary, then bussing in. Would also cut a zone off the train ticket, if it matters to anyone.
I haven't been up for a while actually... any news on machine condition?
Title: Re: RTF Tour of Brisbane and Mini-Comp
Post by: ZDMKylie on August 02, 2007, 10:04:31 PM
Even if you train it to Burpengary and bus it into Morayfield you don't save yourself a zone because you still have to pay for the bus!

Travel isn't even a question as far as I'm concerned. Take the train to Morayfield, and walk the 5 minutes or so to the shops. Joel would say the same. It's really less than the walk from Central to Replay!

When I played the machine last (about two weeks ago?) the pads were surprisingly satisfactory! I played P1 side, and didn't get any misses I felt were undeserved (maybe one or two, which is pretty damned good).

Didn't play P2 side. The machine condition can vary quite a bit, and has been in really bad condition in the past, but lately has also been quite playable.

AWww... did I say Krispy Kremes? I meant Dreamy Donuts.

Unwillingly, at times.

On a Thursday night (that's our late-night shopping) you have to walk through a wall of smoke, bogans and teenage whores to get through the doors.
The fact that we also take the bins out on a Thursday means there's two different meanings to 'the trash is out'.

I'm unsure if I will be doing anything. As I said though, I do propose Morayfield for NEXT week. Perhaps a 'bum-in-the-city' session for this weekend?

Did you guys end up hitting Browns Plains? How was it?

I'm back on deck for a trip this weekend. Morayfield is as good a place as any.

Does anyone have a definite preference for location this week and will turn up if we go there?

Oh! And Marlin mentioned he'd heard rumours of DDR making another Ekka appearance. Anyone heard anything along those lines? I know I've heard these rumours in the past, and I can't remember if anything came of them.

39.3 degree fever.
Ridiculusly swolen glands.
Throat on fire.
Blood test being run to discern whether Tonsilitis or Glandular Fever.
Eaten only a smidgen of of frozen peas and rice.
Managed to hold down half a weetbix this morning.
Go me.

Anywho, looks like mum'll let me tag along, but I probably won't play. Did duck up to Morayfield to confirm supersession times though - Sat. 3 'til 5, Sun. 10 'til noon and lock-in. Still $12. Oh, and they've also played around with the layout - almost gave me a bleeding heart attack! DDR is now just tucked in on the right of the door, meaning there's a decent bit of room 'round the machine and it's not exactly obvious. Still get your average little idiots but hey, where's the fun in peace? 'Least it wasn't those morons stomping in 2-3 inch heels again *gives filthy looks and bad karma*

Oh yeah... first time on compy in 4 - counts em 4 days!

DDR did actually make an appearance at the Ekka two years ago (2005). They had a 'DDR competition' each day of the Ekka which was somehow meant to promote Coke Lime.

(It may have had something to do with the fact that they were handing the drink out to everyone that was too tired after playing)

I won the competition they held that day, but never got the prizes they were supposed to have sent me *sigh* All those Coke backpacks...

Brownsplains was a dissappointment, since they got rid of PPP and Beatmania, however they did move the ddr machine over. The pads on first glance look fine besides being filled with bogan filth and only one bolt missing however 1p is bad becuz of years of playing that side. Originally the machine was shoved right up against Daytona and 2p was unplayable but now its rather good. Probably the equivelent if not better than 2p at tops.

Ill turn up to the morayfield one. And before you ask kylie, printer wont be coming along for the ride. Tooo heavies.

And speaking of DDR comps, Ebe have you heard anything from eddy about the vids from the last compy?

Joel, you still up for this?
Who else is up for a get-together this Saturday? This will be my first weekend of freedom, so I'm keen for it.
And we should be sufficiently recovered from Thursday night by Saturday morning :D

Where do people wanna go? I don't mind if we back-track at this point and head to Chermy or Sunnybank. Or we can head to somewhere new.

I'd like to keep it close-ish to the city tho, as I have something I need to get to on Saturday night.

If we have the people, I say we try Sunnybank again. Thats my two cents

Sunnybank was good. Especially because of the pancakes :D
But the option of DM and IIDX there was also nice.

I am open to suggestion tho.

Sunnybank actually sounds pretty good to me. I like it there. 0.o Can I suggest we make a proper list though? Something with all machine locations, even (or particularly) ones that none of us play on - that way it'd be easy to figure out our options.

that means the only machines we'd visit are logan, garden city and ipswich, not exactly ideal locations :P

Pascal you giggle like a creepy motherfraker.

Also add Morayfield to the list of places that no one goes to.

Also did we ever hear about the videos from the last DDR comp?

I haven't spoken to Eddie yet, sorry.

We will go to Morayfield... eventually. It just wasn't a good weekend for me last time.
I'm keen to go anywhere if there's enough of us going to make the trip fun. Not that Pascal and Shannon haven't been fun.

So: Sunnybank?

Right. As it is now 11:07pm on Friday night and a definite yes/no and meeting time has yet to be posted *twitch-glare*, I shall assume 11am at Replay tomorrow. See you around, ducklets! And my cloud is cool, by the way. So there! =P

Ok, who's up for ITG on Sat. 15th?

15th is a negative. For me anyway.
I'm having my BDay BBQ that night, so I'll be spending the day preparing.

Anyone up for something this weekend? I promise I won't get horribly drunk the night before this time.

This Thursday I FINALLY finish all my assignments, so I'll be free!

I suggest the Morayfield Supersession on Saturday, from 3-5. Should have enough time for Shanny's horse lesson and the trip down.

Hmm... personally I'd prefer ITG, but Morayfield would work out better time-wise. I'm up for either ('specially considering Morayfield hasn't been too bad the last few times I've been up).
