Yeah, superficially it looks like a price increase, but keep in mind I said I put $30 on my card and got $40 before.  That means it's $10 no-VIP, and something like 75c with VIP in my case?

Well it is a price increase. Costs go up, you have to charge more to cover them. This just means that more isn't restricted to what you can make the coin reader deal with.

10c is basically a tax on casual visitors. You'll be VIP in your first visit and it's Business As Usual.

I recall the $10 being mentioned yesterday. If that's what they told you, then that's what it is.

You're a VIP once you have the non-disposable card, aren't you?

I read the 30 dollar thing of the poster behind the counter ^_^

lol at 2000 dollar accumulated balance for platinum member qualification

But I guess eventually people will get there...perhaps....

The 10 dollar thing is probably a good will thing for existing customers to ease over the public's acceptance of the change, wouldn't suprise me if long term the poster becomes gawd.

You'd be surprised how much money people can spend in that place a week...

It is an introductory offer, yes, so take advantage NAO.
The rest is pretty much Timezone-standard, so it's a safe bet it will go back to that eventually.

City store's not part of the national grid yet. Only credit applied in-store will be usable until that changes. You can use the same card, you just can't use any existing credit.

$10 is what I was told for the permanent card.  Which sounded pretty low.  I was also told "once you put $10 on this card (the cheap card) you automatically get this card (the less cheap card)."
This is what i got.

However, when i came back the next day with my friend, i tried to play 3 games. All three, i swiped my card, then went to the desk and said "its been reading my card for a LONG time now."
She followed me back to the game, waited for a bit for it to think, then sighed and opened it up and pressed the button.  I left after it happened the third time for her sake. She was starting to get that look i get when one im having a bad day, then one particular person really pushes their luck.

Also, it did end up charging me all three times. IIDX it charged me $2 which i was kinda annoyed at.
Just be careful which one of my alter ego's you insult mister.

It definitely only charged me $1 - if it's mischarging I'd probably complain so the staff can figure it out.  Also I haven't had any trouble with the cards so far...but I remember ye olde Timezone.  The trouble will come.  I wonder if I'd be cool if I used my 90s Timezone card?

Photo of regular 90s card, circa 2001 gold card, and about 5kg of Replay tokens (I weighed them, it's really 5kg worth).

Too lazy to edit my name off the card because anybody who Googles GurtyGurt's going to find my real name anyway.

Never say I don't do anything for people here :D

Normally, you get a VIP card once you've put 30 dollars on a card over any period of time. At the moment though, you'll get a VIP card once you've spent 10 dollars. So if you come in and pay 10 bucks you'll get 10 bucks of credit on a VIP card. All the games are either the same price or cheaper on VIP.

99% of the opening teething problems have now been worked out - there were issues on the opening weekend, but the staff were making sure that anyone having problems was looked after.

The extra ten dollars Gurt got was part of the Holiday Bonus. Until (and including) Monday, January 26, 20 dollars gets a bonus 10.

On Sunday, 25th January, is the first Justice League event. VIP card holders get 5 free games, and if a VIP holder puts $10, 20, 30, etc. etc on their card, it's doubled.

Also, all through February, on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, all games are half price.

And this justice league thing.....sounds very....appealing....put alot of money on one day....last ages =D

Peanuts.  I calculated years ago that my total Bemani spending THEN was well over $10,000.  I've long since given up counting.

That may sound impossible but I have spent $160 in a day as my record back in 2000 or so, and quite often I'd spend $20 per visit.  I used to buy $50 of tokens at a time.  You're welcome to calculate how much 5kg of tokens equates to but I'm guessing it could be about $200 value.

And I'm keeping it, of course.  Souvenir d'Replay.

There's a card recharge machine up the back of Timeplay that has a coin slot.  It might take tokens because it said "TOKENS COINS" on it, but I have a feeling that was a generic sign.  If you bring in enough a staff member will likely send you to the machine anyway.

And like I said, I'm keeping mine.

Worth pointing out what Raph said too - the Justice League thing on Sunday.  I'm thinking of going and putting $50 on my card so I get $100.  Then maybe doing it again later.  And not spending it all in one day.  From what I understood of the pamphlet I read, I can do that, and I'll still have it Monday.  Anyone going in Sunday for cheap gaming?

John said to us they're getting DDR X last night, but we didn't get enough time to ask if it were an upgrade or a new cabinet.  It's safe to assume it's an upgrade.  No timeframe to speak of...

The beta did but I haven't seen any pics of the release version using one...I haven't even looked for a 16:9 option actually.  The TV I use is 4:3 (CRT, no input lag like most plasmas/LCDs).
