Teh stepmania odyssey of chino and lachlan
« on: June 03, 2008, 10:51:21 AM »
Its getting pretty annoying having to host a thread via emails, so I figured we could talk about our stepmania stuff here... thats unless Ebe decides its trashtalk and deletes it. Well, when we talk about stepmania it ends up being trashtalk anyway, but we need a more proper place to discuss these things and post screenshots and sucha things.

## Other posters are welcome, but post at own discretion ##

Eric said he passed Gaussian Mist with only one miss. Should I call BS on that or ODI?

Keeping in mind that this song is 270bpm 16th notes for a 25 second run at the end, and the 10 second run at the start. I think hes playing someone else's easier steps (Zero's steps)

AA'd Salieri Strikes Back last night @ 92.8

should also post links to the song downloads, so people can check out the songs being passed. a lot of us will have different songs to each other, and i think we'd like to know where to get them.

ok will do

we could probably host them ourselves via megauplaod/mediafire etc.

will wait till outside of a working environment to do so though

I've sd-combobreaker (less than 10 goods+boos+misses) on Gaussian Mist Two heavy, with <20 greats, but Gaussian Mist one is pure verticality.

Keep in mind that I refer to Kang's steps, not Bahamut-X's or Zero's =/

And since they all use the same bg/banner, I would need a vid for verification

I never said anything bad about Stepmania did I?
Hell, we were calling for SM files when we first got into ITG down at Logan.

This should be in the Music Games forum, and I will now move it accordingly.

I put it in general discussion because i didn't want people to think this was a bemani-related troll.

Be aware

there WILL be ranting and bragging and potential trolling in this thread, but aimed only at myself, lachlan, eric and thien, since we are the four who have been discussing our stepmania progress for the past few months. The rest of you can simply sit back and enjoy and benefit from whatever useful information you can acquire =}

Anyway

Big night last night

started playing intent to full combo Eggman's Xepher and Fury of the Storm (not sure by who. lachlan would know what im talking about)

Here are the highlights:

Xepher // Eggman @ 96.8 AA // 5 noncombos index (going for the jumps)
Fury of the Storm // no idea @ 97.2 AA // 7 noncombos @ index (trying to FC the 24th runs at the end)
Blur // Arch0wl @ 25.1 E // up from 21.7 (I can nearly pass this)
Eruption // Melonman67 @ 78.3 C // 1.2x rate C650 (on video)
Salieri Strikes Back // DukAmok @ 92.8 AA // First time AA
Nearly passed Vertex Beta 1.2x rate C650 (on video)
Nearly passed Strangeprogram 1.2x rate
BB Revenge // Kytsune @ no idea B // 1.3x rate raised score (on video)
Delirium // ITG2 @ 99.x AAA // First time AAA

Other stuff

Final Destination // Renard @ 91.4 A // 2x scroll mod. Comfortably reading 850 BPM scroll speed. Backgrounds turned off (0% brightness)
One More Lovely // Eggman @ 96.x (standard) // 4x scroll mod. First time playing 4x overhead
Nearly consistent passes on Blur 0.9x // this goes back a long way from the 0.7x attempts of 6 months ago

Stuff to do:

One More Lovely 1.3
Blur 1.0
Eruption 1.3
Vertex Beta 1.2
Vertex Delta
Guillaume Tell 90 +
Gaussian Mist
Download "The Privateer" and see what the big deal is

anyone AAA'd vertex beta yet? i've been finding it impossible ._.

I think Eric has a higher score on it than I do. But if I AAA'd it then I would he happy enough as it is - I wouldn't go for quad because my timing isn't good enough. I'd rather get a C on say, Strangeprogram 1.5 rate than get a AAAA on One More Lovely.

For now I'm just playing Eruption over and over to get it down. An FC would be nice. I find it alot easier at 1.1 than at 1.0 because of the trills.

god i havent touched kb steps for some time...are you indexing these or using 4 fingers?

I use a "double setup" consisting of WASD and PL:"

My predominant style is Index, but if the need requires I can freely switch to spread.

I posted this on rev-st and was told that this is an "illegal" form of playing. But then I posted this same thing on the Stepmania forums and nobody said it was illegal. I find playing technical patterns alot easier with this style. I CAN play spread, but not as good as index.

yea well most rev-st people are twits, cept for toby, merciless, eugene and nick, theyre cool
i started using wasd and the arrow keys coz i couldnt use just the arrow keys when i changed keyboards, meh

lol @ rev-st saying double spread is illegal, compared to their stance on bar raping lawl

if you see a guy called koushiro (sp? not sure if he frequents the forums anymore) he's got some of the best indexing scores known to man

It is just another alias of Volkov? Or another guy?

@chino lolz, why ask rev street about stepmania? Go SMO or ODI. Most of the best indexers play traditional index anyway (izzy, volkov, anobody etc)... it's better? Or what? (Just watched anobody playing Guassian Mist part one on challenge WTF?!)

with index, how can one keyboard setup be "better"

if anything, spreading them out gives your fingers more room to move.

I fished this up from rev-st; it was posted in June 2006

Quote
Top 10 Indexers worldwide

1. Anobody
2. Izzy
3. DamienKC
4. DukAmok
5. IAmMe
6. BlueMystic
7. Koushiro
8. Tsutter
9. Hayden
10. Anuj

Will keep for reference. Turns out hes pretty darn good. Has done stuff like MSWGO, Blur, Cyanide2600 and quadded Quasar. Gotta get start working =/

Majority of sm community agrees that playing double-setup doesn't count towards passing a hard song, becuz realistically it's like having two people play one chart at the same time...

Brilliant.

I'm trying to sdp MAXX atm >> harder than I thought it would be. Going to go try Kang's GM2 on standard, to see if it's hard or not.

Yeah i dont really care if play styles are legal or not. If I have the capacity to pass a hard song, but am being hindered by a particular keyboard setup then =/ People can have their own opinion

an AAAA on Uber Rave is still a AAAA, double setup or not.

I'll keep asking around tho (and i'll go back to using regular arrow keys sometimes just to appease the nonbelievers)

Speaking of scores;

played that Gaussian Mist that Eric was bragging about.

He was playing Kang's Standard steps. They're not draining or difficult, just the jumps at the end of the runs are a beetch to combo. Could FC on a good day no problem.

Since seeing Koushiro's Quasar AAAA, I have decided to pursue getting a AAAA myself on said song. Current Perfect count: 43.

Jackhammer Madness // 78.xx // 1.3x rate. Going for a 1.5 pass to practice jacks. Mind you, this IS on the double setup, and deserves to be noted because it is songs like these where the difficulty IS affected (the difficulty of the song is effectively halved)

I still wonder how people are able to pass Blur and sucha things with pure Jackhammer power. Should watch more videos ;_;

Pascal:

Good keyboard packs:

Keyboard Collaborations 1 / 2
Community Keyboard Megapack
Any Cosmic Pope pack (these are all R21 packs)
CZip Pack (Arch0wl's R21 pack)
Toph Originals
Gensokyo Midnight (R21 pack)
Melonman67's Stepfiles

Bad keyboard packs:

Anything featuring a Bleach, Naruto, Love Hina or Excel Saga song. ANYTHING.

Brilliant.

I think I am missing something.

Pascal:

Good keyboard packs:

Keyboard Collaborations 1 / 2
Community Keyboard Megapack
Any Cosmic Pope pack (these are all R21 packs) -> cosmic pope's packs are all pad steps, and the songs are long and boring and repetitive and bad
CZip Pack (Arch0wl's R21 pack) -> never played..
Toph Originals
Gensokyo Midnight (R21 pack) -> most of these are pretty boring too, and are pad steps =/
Melonman67's Stepfiles -> are ok, but all the music is like the same and kind of boring, the only reason we have this pack is for Frenzy >>...

Also, playing Jack on double step up is pointless.. I can a it with my double set up too, it's really easy and not really jacks any more.. try pass it on normal.

Also, you should be able to aaaa Quasar easily, with index! aaaa race? I'm bad at Quasar though, oh well. Post your progress here. Other people can join too =D

Edit: Kang's GB is easy on standard, 4g first go. Eric's a scrub.

Edit again: Quasar is too slow and boring to bother aaaa'ing. I'd rather do uber rave or max300 or something =='

big bunch of text

Cosmic Pope's packs are MADE FOR R21. They are not keyboard steps. Also, they are mostly

DRAGONFORCE songs, which, as much as we don't like to admit, really do sound the same, so how can there be any variation?

Practically any Dragonforce sim goes like this: 123, 123, 123, 123, 123, 123, STREAM.... 123, jumpjump, 123, jumpjump, 123, jumpjump, STREAM... SLOWDOWN... STREAM... 24th GUITAR SOLO... STREAM... JACKS... STREAM.... FINAL GUITAR SOLO... Finish

I'm talking about The Pope's old packs. Not the stamina drainers. His real packs, which include stuff like Lolit Speed, Blue Army, Decepticon... They're genuinely good charts that follow the music and have variation.

Quote from: lachlan
Gensokyo Midnight

Most of them aren't challenging enough to be fun, but some of the harder ones are good to play on keyboard (BB Evolution, BB Revenge, Necro Fantasia, Vertex-i)

Quote from: lachlan
Melonman67

Agreed - they are all similar... music is not my type, but the only songs worth playing are Eruption, Frenzy and Hall of the Mountain King.

agreed, they do sound very similar, but they're full of awesome and win, so no-one cares. i may have to download some of the sims and see what they're like.
